Starting from the 1960s, Minimalism originated from the visual art in New York. Minimalist Art is an extreme form of abstractions. Aesthetically, it offers a highly purified form of beauty. Stemming from that, Minimalism has developed into a lifestyle today. At its core, Minimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of everything that distracts us from it. It is a life that forces intentionality.
My first exposure to Minimalism was in 2018, when I stumbled upon a video called "Zen & The Art of Making Coffee" by Matt D'Avella. To me, the philosophy behind Minimalism was intuitive as I found that possessing more did not lead to persistent joy. Ever since, I have integrated Minimalism into my lifestyle by appreciating the beauty of simplicity and embracing freedom from the passion to possess.
My lifestyle is Minimalist and many of my role models are also dedicated to this lifestyle. Steve Jobs, a prime example, once said that "simple can be harder than complex: you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains."
